Oracle itself really doesn't care too much vendor-wise as the storage should be transparent. Not to make it too simple, but the fastest access and most cache you can afford is the goal (isn't it always? 8-) ). The "whole" apps solutions really needs a mix of RAID levels (unless you can afford RAID10 for everything which wastes money I think). I would make sure to get 4GB HBA speed for sure. Are you going to be using ASM? There are a few decent Oracle white papers for figuring net throughput (ASM or not). I found them on metalink mainly when I was researching migrating to ASM for us. What is your current host platform? I would certainly see if they could provide the solution just to keep from having too much diff hardware flavors to maintain. I think most of the major vendors all have comparable solutions. Some people have a deep preference, but some are just basing that on one good or bad experience... We are almost the same size and growth as you and we are using IBMs server attached storage solution and have good performance. We are in need of upgrading to 4GB, but we've had the current solution for almost 4+ years... Finally, I would not even look at software solutions; hardware will always be superior and not always that much more money. I expect you will get some passionate replies on this subject! A well tuned storage system can make or break the underlying application. Storage management guru's can do amazing things if they understand your needs. >>> "ISS Apps DBA" <dba@us.issworld.com> 8/26/2008 3:36:18 PM >>> We are evaluating storage solutions for our applications 11i instance (about 200GB and growing about 2 GB per month). Our sales reps are offering an EMC CX4-120 solution. I have always used Sun arrays (currently A5200) and am not familiar with EMC solutions. Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions on what type of storage solutions are better for Oracle (software vs hardware RAID, cache sizes, etc.)? Sorry if this is very vague, but I am not even sure what questions to ask at this point.
