[OAUGNetDBA]-Re: Oracle Apps storage solutions

I tend towards Hardware RAID over Software RAID (although, that
doesn't tend to make
as big of a deal if you're doing RAID0/1, or 1+0... it's more of an
issue with RAID-5).

Cache size, I tend towards "bigger is better". Cache is important in
all cases, but,
*especially* if you're doing RAID-5. (Cache can help offset some of
the write penalties
of RAID5, but you have to make certain that you NEVER saturate that
cache... This
is why most people doing architecture won't recommend RAID-5 for
production systems.)

Common RAID levels, in order of my preference for production systems:
     RAID 1+0 Striping across mirrors
     RAID 0+1 Mirrored Stripes
     RAID 1 Mirrors
RAID 5 Striping with rotating parity

(While RAID 1+0 and 0+1 may appear the same, the difference is really
in how they
handle the SECOND failure... which is why 1+0 or "10" is preferred.)
