I’d like to take this opportunity to announce two special invitations from Oracle and encourage members of the OAUG to participate.

First, on September 12, 2007, Oracle is hosting The Business Value of Upgrading: A Conversation with Oracle Executives. This is a private Webcast and Q&A session specifically for Oracle User Group Members.

The Webcast will provide an opportunity for participants to learn more about the business value of upgrading to the latest releases of Oracle E-Business Suite, Siebel CRM, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards World and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. In addition, participants will be able to interact with Webcast host Cliff Godwin, senior vice president, Oracle Applications Technology, and other Oracle executives to ask questions and discuss concerns about upgrading to new releases. There is no fee to participate in the Webcast, but registration is required.

Secondly, Oracle has announced a call for nominations for the Oracle Innovation Award. Launched by Oracle in cooperation with the OAUG and Quest, the Oracle Innovation Award will recognize and showcase creative uses of Fusion Middleware with Oracle Applications.

The top 25 winners of the Oracle Innovation Award will receive a conference pass to Oracle OpenWorld San Francisco 2007 and will be honored at an awards reception during the conference. Details about the Oracle Innovation Award, including eligibility requirements and the nomination process, are available on Oracle’s Web site. Nominations will be accepted until October 5, 2007.

The OAUG’s two-way communication channel with Oracle gives our members many opportunities to give and gain relevant information. I hope that you will find one or both of these upcoming initiatives of value.

2008 OAUG Board of Directors Call for Candidates

The OAUG is pleased to announce the newly formed PeopleSoft Upgrade SIG, which has been established to facilitate information availability and communication, as well as interaction between PeopleSoft customers and partners who are involved with PeopleSoft upgrades.

Puget Sound Oracle Users Group (PSOUG)

The Puget Sound Oracle Users Group (PSOUG) was established to facilitate the exchange of technical information between Oracle Corporation, third-party providers of Oracle-related products and services and users of Oracle products from private, public and government organizations. PSOUG is an independent, non-profit Washington Corporation.

The session will review an actual upgrade of the Oracle Database from 8i to 10g for an existing Retek/Oracle Retail Merchandising System v9.0.4 implementation. It will go over the staffing requirements, the steps taken to achieve the goal, the timeline used for the project, identified problems that required codes changes and the lessons we learned along the way. It will also touch briefly on the other tools also affected by this implementation: ARI, Crystal Reports and Cognos Impromptu reports.
